Magu Bee at World's End

A travel blog of one crazy Magu Bee traveling the globe.

One of the very few places I visitied on Java while  spending time with my friend Marianka, was Borobudur. It is a 9th century Buddhist monument, decorated with over 500 Buddha statues.

The thing is, entrance fee for foreigners is 10 times more than for locals (150k rupiah) and is thus quite expensive. To give you some ground for comparison - after the visit we went for lunch in a nearby warung and spent 30k rupiah for 4 people, food with drinks.
However, before we left, we were informed that there's a second entrance to the premises. A little less official, if you will ...

Using the unofficial entrance some kids have built to shorten their way back from school.
And up we go!
The monument comprises six square platforms topped by three circular platforms, and is decorated with 2,672 relief panels!

It is still used for pilgrimage.  Once a year Buddhists in Indonesia celebrate Vesak in here. It is also Indonesia's single most visited tourist attraction.

Picturesquely situated, Borobudur is surrounded with mountains and lush green trees' crowns.
